The opening weekend of the season crowned Justin Verlander’s deuce as an early contender for “GIF of the Year” and it was no hyperbole as it dove well underneath Manny Machado’s bat. Still, Luis Severino’s viscious break at 90mph on his slide piece brings out the Keith Hernandez noises in all of us, preventing this from being an easy first-round choice. One excels in movement, the other in deception, but just one will make it to Thursday.
