Every morning we review the five best pitches from the previous day’s games in glorious HD GIFs. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite pitch and check back this weekend to see if it will be in contention for the “GIF of the Week”. Did we miss your favorite pitch? Johnny Cueto’s Fastball – He had an incredible night as he silenced the Nationals in a complete game shutout while striking out 11 batters. He had a bunch of great pitches on the night, but the late movement on this Fastball to Matt den Dekker for the backwards K was our favorite.

Jake Arrieta’s Curveball – Every time he pitches Arrieta has a good chance of making this roundup. His hook was pretty once again yesterday afternoon, and he stunned Mark Reynolds as this Curve fell into the zone for strike three. (Thanks to @matt_wells16 for the tip!)

Sonny Gray’s Slider – Gray hasn’t been particularly sharp through his recent outings, but his stuff keeps him in every game. This hard Slider to Mark Teixeira was particularly dirty, falling off the table and far away from the Yankee slugger’s bat.

Francisco Liriano’s Changeup – He stayed in the game despite a long 1:42 rain delay and gave a quality start to the Pirates. He struck out six batters across the night, including Derek Norris with this Changeup that hits the perfect spot down and away.

Jose Quintana’s Curveball – We understand this looks more like a Slider, but Pitch f/x defines it as a Curve. Moving on, this nasty pitch starts in the middle of the zone before diving into Chris Colabello’s ankles to get the strikeout.
