Jaime Garcia’s Changeup – Garcia absolutely dominated the Brewers yesterday, abusing them through the final out. His Changeup is vastly underrated, featuring late bite as it darts down and away from right-handers, and Keon Broxton didn’t stand a chance.
Gerrit Cole’s Slider – It wasn’t the dominating Cole we’ve seen in the past, but he did a fine job of limiting the dangerous Detroit offense. His Slider did most of the dirty work, and we got a great look at its frontdoor action as he froze Ian Kinsler in the first.
Stephen Strasburg’s Changeup – The best pitch inside of Strasburg’s arsenal may be his Changeup that he can throw for whiffs against both lefties and righties. He established it early in the game, ending the first frame with this gorgeous offering that never stopped riding into Adonis Garcia.
Vincent Velasquez’s Curveball – Velasquez put on a show yesterday, striking out sixteen Padres en route to a complete game shutout. He blew by most batters with his Fastball, though his Curveball consistently dismantled batters as well. It’s hard not to enjoy watching Jabari Blash’s knees buckle on this big hook.
Danny Salazar’s Changeup – Salazar got the job done in Tampa last night as he punched out nine batters through six frames. His Changeup looked excellent, especially this one that closed the fifth inning.
