Injury Report: Aug. 31

Thankfully, a quiet injury week!

Welcome to the weekly injury report! Fortunately, it was a relatively quiet week on the IL, but we are going to take a look at the biggest injured names.

Aaron Judge – Calf Strain

Aaron Judge has suffered a setback during his calf strain recovery. Two weeks ago, I predicted that Judge would be out for a week, but I did say if he rushes back too fast, then he runs the risk of reinjuring his calf. Once an injury reoccurs, the timeline increases dramatically. I think this is going to be a significant setback for Judge, and he is going to be out for a while.

Return Date: 4 weeks

Nathan Eovaldi – Calf Strain

2020 and pitcher injuries: Name a more iconic duo. How about 2020 and calf injuries? Why not both? It feels like I have talked about calf injuries in every weekly report, and we have yet again another calf injury. Nathan Eovaldi was placed on the IL with a calf strain this past week. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Red Sox slow play this recovery and keep him on the shelf for a decent chunk of time as we approach the end of the season. If he makes a return, Eovaldi shouldn’t have this injury impact his performance moving forward.

Return Date: 4-6 weeks

Justin Turner – Hamstring

Reports coming out of Los Angeles are saying that Justin Turner is dealing with a low-grade hamstring strain. He is set to be re-evaluated Tuesday. Given the news that we are getting, I would expect him to miss the next ten days. While Turner may not land on the IL, I would expect him to need a week to get right before returning. If he does return before then, I’m worried about a setback.

Return Date: 10 days

Aaron Hicks – Leg Injury?

Aaron Hicks left the game Sunday with an apparent injury. We don’t have much of any information about what happened, but the fact that Hicks was able to complete his at-bat is good news. Given that Hicks showed pain during his swing makes me think this could be an oblique injury. We will have to wait for an update to see the severity of Hicks’ injury in the coming days.

Return Date: Oblique? 3-4 weeks. Hamstring strain? 3-4 weeks.

Marcus Semien Side Discomfort

Marcus Semien underwent an MRI for side discomfort on Sunday. The imaging showed no damage, so we should expect Semien to return by the end of the upcoming week. Once Semien returns, he should be able to perform without issue leading into the fantasy playoffs.

Return Date: End of the week

Do you have any history of hitters playing with bone spurs? Wondering how worried I need to be about Urshela.

    Thanks!

The silence on Puig has been deafening since testing positive for COVID-19 in mid-July. Have you heard anything? I guess he’s done for 2020 – huh?

I have looked all over for an update, but I haven’t been able to find anything of note. I would be shocked if he plays this year.

  3. Eric says:

    Is JD Martinez ok?
