Injury Report – 7/12

Jeff Davis provides an update in today's edition of the Injury Report.

Hello and welcome to the Injury Report!

This roundup is a biweekly article, published on Mondays and Fridays, where I aim to detail approximately five relevant injuries that have occurred over the past few days or provide an update on the injury of a prominent MLB player. I will try to incorporate the available information as well as my own knowledge and experience to approximate a return date in each case, noting the individual characteristics of the injuries and of the players themselves.

The All-Star break is a good time to catch up on some notable players who have been out for an extended period, so that has become the goal of today’s edition.

If you have questions regarding an injury not detailed in this article, feel free to comment below, and I will give my best effort to provide a timely update.

Corey Kluber – Right Ulna Fracture

Corey Kluber has resumed a throwing program in his return from a right forearm fracture. MRIs indicated that the bone had healed sufficiently and there was no residual structural damage. Kluber will take a while to ramp up, but should return around the start of August.

Estimated return: First week of August

Carlos Correa – Rib Fracture

Carlos Correa is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment next week, which puts him on course to return during the last two weeks of July. My guess is July 26, but there is a chance he returns before that.

Estimated return: Return in the next two weeks

Giancarlo Stanton – Right PCL Sprain

Giancarlo Stanton sprained the PCL in his right knee. Surgery has not been discussed, though this seems to be more than a minor sprain. I would guess that it is a Grade 2 sprain, which puts our approximate timetable at six to eight weeks. That has Stanton returning in the latter portion of August at the best, with the more likely outcome that he is sidelined into September. There is also a chance that the Yankees are withholding some information, which could amount to a longer absence than anticipated.

Estimated return: September

Luis Severino – Right Lat Strain

Luis Severino continues his rehabilitation after being once again shut down from throwing due to renewed soreness in his right lat. With the continued set-backs it is difficult to imagine Severino returning prior to September – and he may end up sitting out for the remainder of the year.

Estimated return: September

Tyler Glasnow – Right Flexor Injury

Tyler Glasnow has been shut down once again due to right flexor mass inflammation. Glasnow stated that while he experienced renewed pain in his forearm, imaging has shown that his UCL is healthy and intact. Glasnow should resume throwing in approximately a week and should return by the middle of August without further setbacks.
