Injury Report – 5/31

Jeff Davis provides an update in today's edition of the Injury Report.

Hello and welcome to the Injury Report!

This roundup is a biweekly article, published on Mondays and Fridays, where I aim to detail approximately five relevant injuries that have occurred over the past few days or provide an update on the injury of a prominent MLB player. I will try to incorporate the available information as well as my own knowledge and experience to approximate a return date in each case, noting the individual characteristics of the injuries and of the players themselves.

If you have questions regarding an injury not detailed in this article, feel free to comment below, and I will give my best effort to provide a timely update.

Eugenio Suarez – Left Hand Contusion

Eugenio Suarez suffered a left hand contusion. X-rays have come back negative after Suarez left the game on Wednesday. Suarez may be able to play tonight, though he may require an additional day of rest.

Estimated return: This weekend.

Carlos Correa – Rib Fracture

Carlos Correa suffered a rib fracture while at home. The timetable of 4-6 weeks has been reported in multiple places though I would definitely err on the longer side of that estimate. Bone healing is typically 4-6 weeks on it’s own, and that doesn’t factor in a complete rehabilitation process. Correa will be limited in a majority of trunk movements for most of his recovery and it will take time to build his swing again. I would anticipate a return after the all-star break.

Estimated return: Mid-July.

Justin Turner – Hamstring Tightness

Justin Turner is battling hamstring tightness and was held out of action on Thursday night. There is currently no indication that this is a serious injury, and he should be able to return to the lineup in the near future. Look for Turner to return to the lineup for the beginning of next week.

Estimated return: Early next week.

Tommy Pham – Right Leg Cramp

Tommy Pham left Thursday’s game due to discomfort in his right lower leg which was later identified as cramping. Pham should be able to return to the lineup on Friday.

Estimated return: Friday.

Aaron Sanchez – Right Middle Fingernail Avulsion

Aaron Sanchez sustained a right middle fingernail avulsion. Essentially, the fingernail is separating from the finger. Sanchez was removed from his Monday start due to this injury. The middle finger is an important contact point on both the fastball and the curveball though it is not clear if any pitch is particular is causing or exacerbating this injury. Sanchez hopes to make his next start, though being held out of action and missing the Jays’ series in Coor’s may not be the worst thing. He will likely pitch Sunday or early next week.

Estimated return: Sunday or early next week.

Is there any update on Weaver’s recovery timetable knowing the official diagnosis is a “minor” UCL strain and a flexor pronator? I’m seeing a conservative approach timeline about 6-8 weeks. I’m guessing if he needed 4 different opinions this must have been in some grey area with whether to go with surgery or rest.

At this time it seems like Drupal is the best blogging platform out there right now.

(from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
