Injury Report: 7/19

Jeff Davis provides an update in today's edition of the Injury Report.

Hello and welcome to the Injury Report!

This roundup is a biweekly article, published on Mondays and Fridays, where I aim to detail approximately five relevant injuries that have occurred over the past few days, or provide an update on the injury of a prominent MLB player. I will try to incorporate the available information as well as my own knowledge and experience to approximate a return date in each case, noting the individual characteristics of the injuries and of the players themselves.

If you have questions regarding an injury not detailed in this article, feel free to comment below, and I will give my best effort to provide a timely update.

Adalberto Mondesi – Left Shoulder Subluxation

Adalberto Mondesi hit the IL with a left shoulder subluxation. Some recent comparisons of players sustaining a subluxation of their non-dominant shoulder are Jacoby Ellsbury in 2012 and Jesse Winker in 2018. Ellsbury missed approximately 90 days, while Winker injured his shoulder in late July and was declared done for the season the next week. This doesn’t look good for Mondesi.

Estimated return: Not likely to return this season.

Eloy Jimenez – Right Ulnar Nerve Contusion

Eloy Jimenez headed to the IL with a right ulnar nerve contusion following an outfield collision. In the absence of any additional structural damage, this can be thought as relatively minor and may not hold Jimenez out for much more than the minimum. He may be able to DH before he is able to return to the field.

Estimated return: Early August.

Nick Senzel – Mild Hamstring Strain

Nick Senzel had an MRI come back clean and is expected to miss the IL.

Estimated return: Return to play early next week.

Brendan Rodgers – Right Shoulder Labrum Surgery

Brendan Rodgers has had his 2019 ended by right shoulder surgery. It is not likely that he’ll begin 2020 on time.

Estimated return: Early to mid-2020.

David Dahl – Left Foot Contusion

David Dahl had X-rays on his foot come back negative. He is dealing with a contusion and should be able to return to play this weekend or early next week.

Estimated return: Early next week.
