Hitter List 8/29: Ranking the Top 150 Hitters To Own ROS

Kyle Bishop's update ranking the Top 150 Hitters every Wednesday through 2018.

[hitter_list list_id=”24770″ include_stats=”1″ season=”2018″]

Welcome back to Hitter List. Every Wednesday during the regular season, I’ll rank the current value of the top 150 hitters for the remainder of the year. Use these rankings to help get a sense of both a player’s expected performance and his trade value in your fantasy leagues moving forward.  They’re constructed with 12-teamer, H2H, 5×5 leagues in mind; adjust as needed for your specific setup. Position eligibility does factor in to a degree.

With so little time left in the season, adjustments to the List can and will be aggressive. In particular, injuries will take on added importance as even a minor health issue may cost a player a decent chunk of their remaining games. Rest assured that any rankings you vehemently disagree with were explicitly an attempt to insult you and/or your favorite player(s) personally. Seriously, before you work yourself into a rage in the comment section, understand that this is only one person’s opinion. I’m wrong a lot! Comes with the territory of doing this sort of thing.

On to the highlights!

  • Injury roundup: The big blow here was Jose Abreu (abdominal), whose projected two-week recovery timetable seems optimistic given the surgery he underwent. His drop here may prove to be an overreaction, but he won’t have much time to get back up to speed even if his recovery does go well. Mallex Smith (viral infection) landed on the disabled list with his illness and will miss at least another week as a result. It’s a disappointing turn in a breakout season for the speedy Rays outfielder. Justin Upton (finger) sliced his finger on a wine glass because why not, and needed four stitches, but he’s expected to be back this weekend. Marcell Ozuna (shoulder) received a cortisone injection for an impingement that’s hampered him all season and is targeting roster expansion on September 1 as his return date.  Lastly, Aaron Judge (wrist) remains sore and unable to swing a bat, which is…not great.
  • New to or back on the List this week: Greg Allen, Melky Cabrera, Trey Mancini, Todd Frazier, and Marwin Gonzalez. Allen struggled and didn’t play much in the season’s first half, but he’s hitting .348 with seven steals and solid run production in 19 games since the break. He appears to be tightening his grip on the starting job in center field, where Cleveland has cycled through five different players this season. Teammate Cabrera found himself in the minors after no other team signed him following a DFA earlier this season. Since returning to the bigs, he’s batted .320 with six homers and 31 R+BI in 33 games. Mancini has spent most of his sophomore season in a funk, but has homered twice in his last three games and is slashing .286/.324/.520 with six homers in August. Frazier has three bombs to his credit in the last week and a .258/.323/.483 line since returning from injury at the beginning of the month. Gonzalez’s surge comes too late to shake the label of fantasy bust, but he’s hit .349 with eight homers and an absurd 39 R+BI in 22 games this month.

Will Rizzo still have his 2B eligibility in Yahoo next year?

So confused how Dickerson continues to be a fixture on this list, and how he continues to move up. .212 / 3R / 0HR / 2RBI / 1SB in the last month…

Thoughts on Amed Rosario? He tore up August, his OBP sucked but his counting stats were as good as Bregman or Bogaerts. Is this purely small sample size?

Pollock at #52? Them was the good ole’ days. Remember when AJ used to run, too?
