Hitter List 6/13: Ranking the Top 150 Hitters To Own ROS

Kyle Bishop's update ranking the Top 150 Hitters every Wednesday through 2018.

[hitter_list list_id=”21712″ include_stats=”1″ season=”2018″]

Welcome back to Hitter List. Every Wednesday during the regular season, I’ll rank the current value of the top 150 hitters for the remainder of the year. Use these rankings to help get a sense of both a player’s expected performance and his trade value in your fantasy leagues moving forward.  They’re constructed with 12-teamer, H2H, 5×5 leagues in mind; adjust as needed for your specific setup. Position eligibility does factor in to a degree.

As a reminder: There’s still well over half the year of baseball left to be played, and these are rest of season rankings. We’re interested in the long view ’round these parts. That said, adjustments to the List are more aggressive as we move deeper into the year. With that should come the acknowledgment that small shifts in a specific player’s ranking are often as much a consequence of other players’ more drastic movements as anything else. This is especially true when injuries occur. Put another way, please do not @ me if a guy moved up like two spots even if he’s failed to get a hit in the last couple games. I do, however, welcome more substantive grievances in the comments.

On to the highlights!

  • Injury roundup: A fairly quiet week for injuries, at least among hitters…until Tuesday night, when Miguel Cabrera ruptured his bicep, rendering him out for the year. It obviously removes him from the List, and it’s another sad chapter in his injury-ravaged decline. He had shown some life still in the bat when healthy, but ultimately suited up for only 38 games this season. We’ve had a couple of vets linger on the disabled list, such as Yoenis Cespedes, but we also welcomed back both Adam Eaton and Daniel Murphy this week. Of course, as I wrote last week, I’m pretty concerned about the latter’s recovery from microfracture surgery.
  • New to or back on the List this week: Max Muncy, Jurickson ProfarMiguel Andujar, and
  • Dustin Fowler. Can’t ignore what these guys are doing. Andujar in particular feels one I should have been getting yelled at about before last week. Love Fowler’s xStats, pop and speed combo, and his new role as leadoff man in Oakland. With regard to Muncy, I think Jeff Sullivan put it about as well as anyone could. Statcast buys the performance, and actually suggests he’s been better than even his .416 wOBA would have you believe. Of the new additions, I’m probably least excited about Profar since most of his value is tied to run production, but good on him for finding his way into the middle of lineup after looking like he’d never taste success at the highest level.
  • Honorable Mentions: Jonathan Villar (roster crunch, lack of run production), and Joc Pederson (playing time concerns, hot streak clearly just that).
  • The largest drop of the week (besides Miggy, that is…dangit) goes to Ender Inciarte, to make up for my being incredible slow on the uptake. He’s quit stealing bases and just looks terrible at the plate these days. His cold snap neatly coincides with my slide into irrelevance in the PitcherList staff league, which may or may not have me feeling vindictive…but the numbers don’t lie, and they’re ugly.

    Hey Kyle,
Do you have any insight on why Kris Bryant isn’t playing like a true first rounder?
He’s still getting on base, avg and obp in line with career norms, babip is normal, other numbers look normal for him, but he hasn’t hit a homer is 5/14! What gives?
I’m also not seeing much talk of him turning it around, on forums I’m seeing people just shrugging their shoulders and saying “Maybe he’s not as good as he was in 2016”. No talk of buying low or being patient. Personally, I’m trying to buy him in every keeper/dynasty I’m in. Good move? Thanks in advance.

  3. Steve says:

Jose Ramirez is just too low. I’d prob take him over Harper, Blackmon, and Judge. Maybe even Altuve. There just aren’t 8 hitters better than JoRam!!!

    • Jared says:

Agreed, if I re-drafted today, I would take him 3rd overall.

      • theKraken says:

Agreed. Whatever you want is what he gives you – R, RBI, AVG, BB, SB, HR, XBH. No reason to think any of it is a huge mirage either. I wonder what his end of season numbers will look like?

  4. g says:

no willy adames? i guess i should put a claim in for semien who was dropped and drop adames then. Scott schebler isnt more rosterable than the padres outfielders and rougned/profar?

  5. Jacob says:

Evan Gattis? Second week in a row I don’t see him here, but I imagine he’s a top 150 hitter.

  6. Taylor says:

Tim Anderson is the 35th overall batter on the season thus far. Definitely deserves better. Snuffing Ian Desmond on the list… He’s top 90 on the year even with his bad start, and he’s and 21st in the last 30 days. Don’t know who Schwarber has to kill to get moved out of the top 60 and put in the very back of the list. Longoria and Desmond >>>>>>>>> Profar

  7. BD Bandino says:

Evan Gattis has been the best hitter in the entire league for the past month and he’s not even in the top 150??? LOL What a joke!!

  8. Sheets says:

    Hey Kyle…
Justin Smoak – why is he a top 90 player? No power low average what do you see that makes him any different than a 260 25hr guy if that? Thanks

    • theKraken says:

You may very well be right… but 100 BB and the run production that comes with playing every day in the middle of the order is what makes him valuable. Agreed that he may not be a top 90 hitter – remember you are talking hitters here – he is not being placed as a top 90 overall – its probably more like 150-200 overall.

  9. Frankie says:

    Leonis Martin must be #151

  10. Jack says:

Paul DeJong? Cards say he’ll be back by the end of June. I’d put him right there with Schoop at worst. No?

  11. theKraken says:

    Haniger heading down?
Nimmo looks way out of place – a lot of guys around him and below him really produce consistently. I think any team valuing Nimmo like that is going to get burned.

  12. James says:

Points league: Chris Taylor 183.5, I Happ 115. Yet ranked right next to each other here. Hmmm…

  13. Saint says:

I’m thrilled with the number 46 overall ranking of Gallo and the fact he moved up 2 spots this week, however I’m dreading that I drafted him and is still currently in my starting lineup. .128/.281/.319 slash line in 15 games in June. .195 BA on the season. Can anyone please convince me to hang on to the potential of 40+ HR’s by the end of the season and not drop him to pick up Gurriel, Desmond, Aguilar, Thames, or Bour.

Thanks to anyone who provides feedback.
