Hitter List 5/16: Ranking the Top 150 Batters ROS

As we traverse the midpoint of the month of May, the identities of hitters are starting to solidify. Six-plus weeks of gameplay have allowed us to formulate judgments that may now be statistically defended as more than just hunches; what could have been written off as flukishly good or bad performances are either still impressively going on or normalizing like we expected. As such, it becomes easier to feel confident about what a guy’s fantasy value has been to your team up to this point and what it can be in the future. But if you still have concerns or curiosities about a player’s potential for the remainder of 2017, these rankings are designed to be the most up-to-date tool for situations that involve potential transactions. This is supposed to be a list that helps guide you with what to do with a hapless Todd Frazier and whom you might be getting more value from, or indeed whether to believe that Cody Bellinger’s brilliant MLB career is actually starting now and not just some time in the not-so-distant future.

With all that context taken into account, and without further ado, let’s review the Top 150 hitters in fantasy baseball:

Notes

• J.D. Martinez is back from the 10-day DL and already excelling. Stephen Piscotty is due back to St. Louis’ active roster midweek.
• Trevor Story, Ryan Braun and A.J. Pollock all went to the 10-day DL this week.
• Troy Tulowitzki should see reinstatement to the active roster soon and has been serving as a DH most recently in High A; expect to see him back by Thursday at the latest. Josh Donaldson has resumed all forms of workouts and baseball activities short of gameplay, so that’s a good sign and indicative of a rehab assignment happening sooner than later. We will continue to monitor the situations for each Toronto player and adjust ranking spots in correspondence with their availabilities.
• Adrian Beltre could return by the end of May but we will hold off on full restoration of his preseason ranking until that becomes more probable closer to that time.
• Yoenis Cespedes and Mitch Haniger have scheduled return dates of May 23. Hunter Pence joined the DL this week but it is retroactive so he could return the same date.
• Falling out of the Top 150—with their previously held rank in parentheses—are Javier Baez (137), Asdrubal Cabrera (138), Yangervis Solarte (131), Jed Lowrie (144), Carlos Gomez (145), Joc Pederson (147) and Joe Panik (150).
• Making a fresh appearance on the Hitter List are Aaron Altherr (129), Neil Walker (134), Keon Broxton (136), Randal Grichuk (142), Yadier Molina (146), Brandon Drury (148) and Joey Gallo (150).
