Weather Impact

Clear skies ahead across the board.

Pitching (Main Slate)

The days keep changing but Merrill Kelly keeps staying the same. The 34-year-old just continues rolling and is about as solid an option as there is on the board. He faces a Pirates lineup that has put up some big numbers in 2 of the last 3 games but overall has been very disappointing lately. Kelly’s 26.6 K% is by far the best of his career and the Pittsburgh does have a very susceptible lineup to striking out. Add in the large confines of PNC Park and Kelly is looking like a top option today.

Lance Lynn is back! We’ve been waiting for him to come around for almost two months now and he finally rewarded us with 7 innings of 1 ER with 7 Ks and 0 walks. Granted it was against a weak Guardians lineup, but today he gets an equally weak Royals lineup. Kansas City has the 2nd worst wRC+ (77) in baseball over the last two weeks and they definitely have some strikeout-ability. I’m banking on Lynn holding onto his good form and providing good value on Sunday.

Framber Valdez got roughed up pretty good in his last start but I am electing to remember him for his outing on May 9th against the Angels, when he struck out 12 batters with no walks and 1 ER over 8 innings. Now he faces the abysmal Oakland Athletics and that is the most auto-start of auto-starts. The A’s have posted a 25.4 K% over the last two weeks and Framber has a career-high 28.1 K% this season. On top of that, he has a career-best 5.42 K/BB and the A’s are just going to be no match for him today.

Rockie Road is on the slate on Sunday for Andrew Heaney and I am very excited for it. Heaney is someone I’ve been a fan of for quite a while now and he has had a bit of an up-and-down season. In his last start against those aforementioned A’s, Heaney gave up just 1 ER over 6 innings with 9 Ks. Colorado has put up a weak 85 wRC+ over the last two weeks and struggled with Jon Gray yesterday. Take a chance on Heaney today and reap the rewards.

Hitting (Main Slate)

The two teams I am targeting for stacks today are playing late so they require just a bit of patience. James Kaprielian and his 10.17 ERA take the mound today against the Astros. Although Houston’s lineup hasn’t been putting up the numbers we are used to, they still have some very formidable hitters. Yordan Alvarez is always a threat at the plate and he has been hitting it well of late. Jose Altuve is back at the top of the lineup and adds to the team’s overall depth. With Alex Bregman, Jose Abreu, Kyle Tucker and Jeremy Pena making up the rest of the top six, Houston will have a lot of opportunities out there on the diamond today and I will be chasing those opportunities with my lineup.

The Texas Rangers offense has been rolling so far in this series against Colorado and they’re not even playing in Coors. The AL West leaders have scored 18 runs in the first two games of the series and today they face Connor Seabold, a mediocre at-best starting pitcher. Adolis Garcia, Marcus Semien and Ezequiel Duran are three of the hottest hitters in baseball right now and Corey Seager, Nathaniel Lowe and Josh Jung make a strong middle of the order. Even Leody Taveras has put up solid numbers this season. This stack won’t be nearly as expensive as the Houston one and I will be finding ways to get some Rangers in my lineup.

Other hitters to consider:

  • The Blue Jays offence has been scuffling a bit lately, but I like their matchup against Dean Kremer. George Springer had a big day yesterday and Brandon Belt has been hitting the ball well of late. I would never blame anyone for putting Bo Bichette or Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. in their lineup either.
  • On paper, the Nationals lineup is not intimidating, but they have been a top 6 offence in baseball over the last couple of weeks (113 wRC+). Facing LHP Joey Wentz on Sunday, I like Lane Thomas, Jeimer Candelario and Joey Meneses as cheap, low-0wned options.
