  • Kenley Jansen’s rollercoaster of a season could be coming to an end with the possibility the 3 time All-Star fails to reach the 30 save mark for the first time since 2013. Although Dave Roberts is still considering Jansen as the teams closer, he also admitted Monday that he will be used in some different situations, and a combination of Kenta Maeda, Pedro Baez and Joe Kelly will also be in the mix to close out games going forward. I still think you have to continue to hold unless there are some top 20 options available.
  • Ever since Sergio Romo was used in two save situations over Taylor Rogers three weeks ago, Rogers has gone on a tear, picking up 4 saves while allowing just 2 hits to go with a 7/0 K/BB rate over 4.2 IP. Since then both Romo and Sam Dyson have been used strictly in set up roles, so I think Rogers is in the clear as the sole closer again. The Twins schedule remains one of the more favorable ones over the past month of the season, especially the last two weeks where they get the White Sox, Tigers and two sets with the Royals.
  • The Jose Leclerc experience this season continues to be a bumpy ride, with the closer blowing two saves in his last 4 outings. I still believe in Leclerc long term, and look forward to taking him at a discounted price next season, but with the Rangers remaining schedule following this weekends series with Baltimore, his window to contribute in 2019 could be closing quick. After traveling to Baltimore this weekend, the Rangers finish up with the Rays, A’s (twice), Astros, Red Sox and Yankees.

Got a bye for first round of playoffs, should I drop Edwin Diaz for Taylor Rogers or do you think he claims back the closer role over Lugo?

    • Rick Graham says:

I think I would just to be safe. Lugo has been fine in the role and while Diaz has looked much better over his past 3 outings, I don’t see any reason for the Mets to change things up right now.
