  • The MLB trade deadline came and went with a whimper, as we didn’t see many big names move, especially when it comes to closers. Shane Greene did wind up moving from Detroit to Atlanta, which one would think could boost his fantasy value. However, let’s remember this is the same Shane Greene who holds a career 4.60 ERA and 1.35 WHIP over 393 IP. He’s been lucky for much of the year, especially considering the division he pitched in, so we should expect some regression moving to the NL East. However, it’s been the Reds who seem to have his number so far, as they were able to get to him for 4 ER and 7 H over 2 IP this past weekend.
  • Wade Davis has finally been removed from the Rockies closer role, at least temporarily, with Scott Oberg taking over. Though I typically stay away from Rockies pitchers, Oberg has seemed to find a way to succeed this season with a 1.53 ERA, so I’d consider him in 12 teamers for as long as he holds the job. Davis is safe to drop in most re-draft leagues.
  • Craig Kimbrel landed on the IL this week with knee inflammation, and the lack of depth in the Cubs bullpen reared its ugly head once again Monday, as it took them 4 relievers to finish off the final two innings while allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks. It’s unclear at the moment who may be the favorite for saves while Kimbrel is out, but it’s probably just best to stay away from the candidates as Kimbrel is expected to only miss the minimum 10 days anyway.

Well that was the majority consensus to begin the year so it just goes to show don’t pay for closers early.

Any truth in Staneck taking over in Miami?
