- Roberto Osuna is closing out games again and looks to be the full time closer in Houston going forward. He’s one of those guys who just seems to up his game in save situations and is primed to be a top 10 RP option the rest of the way. Seranthony Dominguez seems to have hit the rookie wall recently, and may not receive any save chances in the immediate future. Pat Neshek seems like the favorite at this point to replace him temporarily and is worth a look in most standard leagues.
- Aroldis Chapman hit the DL last week with what had been a long ongoing knee issue. The Yankees seem to be going with a committee approach to replace Chapman, with Dellin Betances, David Robertson and Zach Britton all getting a save chance in his absence. For fantasy purposes, Betances and Robertson are the preferred options to own. The Nationals closer carousel continues to circle as Kelvin Herrera didn’t last long in his return from the DL and will miss the rest of the season. Justin Miller earned his first save last night, but expect this to be a committee with Ryan Madson and Koda Glover mixing in, none of which are must-adds at this time.
- No relievers had three saves over the past week while eight had two. Mark Melancon is perhaps the biggest surprise of the eight, and while he has pitched better as of late, Will Smith should still be the primary closer moving forward.
Kirby Yates has been bad in three of his last four appearances. What is your confidence level in him going forward?
The HR’s are worrisome but with how good he’s been all year (and last), it’s probably just more of a rut. He went through a similar issue last August as well and bounced back in September.
The Giants situation looks to be a giant mess. Smith, Melancon and Strickland all seem to be in the mix for saves. Is this a situation to be avoided?
I’m hoping Smith was just giving a few days off after Friday/Saturdays outings. If he doesn’t get the next save chance though, it turns into a situation to avoid.
I’m a Jansen owner and never thought I would say I don’t trust him, but I don’t. He’s becoming a ratio risk and losing out on save opportunities in my standard roto league. I own Kimbrel, Jansen, Treinen and Vazquez. I’m in 1st place overall by a significant margin, but the ERA/WHIP categories I have a slim lead and only lead by one save in the SV category. The team trailing me in saves has Diaz (seems to pitch and pick up a save every day), Iglesias, Strop and Peralta. Diaz is single handedly helping him keep pace with me.
My question is do I bench Jansen and pick up Minter or Jeffress for saves and better ratios?
I don’t think I’d panic just yet. Keep rolling with him for now
Would you take Davis over Dominguez ROS given Dominguez’s struggles recently?
Right now looking like Davis. Not sure if Kapler would turn back to Dominguez is Neshek is rolling.
