- Taylor Rogers, now the Twins primary closer, is the biggest mover this week, as he heads to the top of tier 3. He’s shown well again this season after last year’s breakout, and while I’m all for rostering him for now, I’d have to imagine the Twins adding a high leverage reliever at the deadline. With the Madison Bumgarner rumors floating around, maybe they can get the Giants to include Will Smith in a potential deal as well? Anyway, for anyone still wondering, Blake Parker isn’t worth holding on to anymore.
- Speaking of tier 3, as we get closer to the trade deadline, I expect this tier to experience a lot of movement. About half of the tier is likely to be traded at the deadline, while the other half could be replaced by deadline acquisitions, or possibly even within the organization. With 4-5 teams looking to upgrade at the position, there’s still at least a 50% chance Shane Greene, Alex Colome and Greg Holland wind up staying in closer roles wherever they end up. However, there’s still a lot of teams with top-end closers that will be looking to add relief help this summer and there could be bigger names on the move such as Will Smith, Sean Doolittle, Ken Giles and Raisel Iglesias.
- Ryan Brasier earned a save for the Red Sox last night as both Brandon Workman and Matt Barnes seemed to be getting the night off. It’s still a massive headache for fantasy owners trying to figure out what’s going on, but for now, I still think Workman is the best option to own. This situation likely will be in flux all the way up to the trade deadline. Just as frustrating is the Rays situation, as Diego Castillo was extremely shaky in his save chance this past week as Jose Alvarado is still working his way back from an extended absence. Maybe an Alex Colome reunion would make some sense for the Rays?
- Ken Giles hit the IL last week and while the original diagnosis made it sound like Giles could be back this upcoming weekend. For now, Joe Biagini and Daniel Hudson will fill in should any save chances arise, but expect Giles back in the top 12 for next week’s list.
Do you have any plans to write a speculative add list for guys that might have their value shoot up as we approach the trade deadline?Perhaps it really is too unpredictable. I really think that you are not a hack, so its OK if the answer is no haha.
I think I’ll put something out in early July, kind of like a relievers guide to the trade deadline. It is hard to predict, and I did something similar last year which was very hit or miss predictions wise haha.
