Alex Colome has left the list for the foreseeable future as he was traded to the Mariners this past Friday where he should fit into a set up role in front of Edwin Diaz. This leaves an opening in Tampa that should be filled by some combination of Jose Alvarado and Chaz Roe. Alvarado worked the 7th and 8th inning of a tie game yesterday, but I wouldn’t read too much into it as he should be the biggest beneficiary here. Yes, he is left handed, but he has fared well against righties and actually has better career splits against his same side. Roe is certainly in the mix as well, although he has struggled this year with a 4.42 ERA.
- On the injury front, Felipe Vazquez has been dealing with some forearm discomfort, which while never a good sign, the fact that he claims to be ready to pitch today is a big positive. Theres no clear cut handcuff here, although Edgar Santana has pitched well in hold chances this season. Richard Rodriguez and yes, Tyler Glasnow, could also be in the mix if Vazquez does wind up on the DL, although neither one has a hold yet this season. Raisel Iglesias is expected back Wednesday after missing little more than a week with a strained left bicep, diminishing Jared Hughes’s value.
- Edwin Diaz and Kenley Jansen led the week in saves with 4, however Ryan Tepera was able to add 2 holds to his 2 saves this past week. Tepera looks locked in to the Jays closing role for now, but it hasn’t been pretty. He’s still worth a look in standard leagues since he doesn’t have strong competition around him and Roberto Osuna is likely out for a long, long time.
I traded Vasquez and Knebel for Kimbrel. Both Vasquez and Knebel don’t look good this year and Knebel’s closer role may not be secure with their great bullpen. Do you like the trade?
My closers are now Kimbrel, Doolittle, Allen Treinen. Who do you like better ROS – Treinen or Davis? I’m in a standard, season-long roto league (K, QS, S, ERA, WHIP).
Yea I think you made out on that trade. Always in favor of given away two ponys for a horse, especially when it comes to closers.
I think Treinen can, he’s been soo good this year and his stuff is finally playing up and reflecting in the numbers. I’m buying it.
So don’t trade Treinen for Davis?
In a league that counts saves and holds, would you add Edgar santana and cut neris? Neris isn’t getting holds or saves. Vazquez claims he is fine but these kinds of injuries rarely end well. Thanks
Keep Neris as long as Vazquez is still pitching.
Trade Treinen for Jansen?
I traded Treinen for Jansen last night. According to Brooks, Jansen’s average velo has increased each month and his fastball and cutter is back to where it was last year.
My question is as great as Treinen has been this year…backed by the peripherals and Jansen’s velo coming back with Fangraphs showing his ROS ERA/WHIP to be better…would you have made the trade too? I guess I’m looking for positive reinforcement on my decision. :)
