Chris Archer’s Slider – It’s always difficult to pitch through the rain and Archer did the best he could given the circumstances last night. His famous slide piece still had its moments, here getting Welington Castillo to whiff on a 90mph Slider down in the zone.
Miguel Gonzalez’s Fastball – It was another excellent outing from Gonzalez as he pitched eight scoreless frames against the Royals. He’s making a habit of using his riding Fastball inside against left-handers and made a showcase of it against Brandon Moss.
Ariel Hernandez’s Slider – Hernandez made his major league debut last night, dialing it up to triple digits with his heater and featuring this wipeout Slider. Domingo Santana shows us why simply having 100mph heat makes your other pitches that much better.
Matt Cain’s Fastball – Last night featured one of the better starts we’ll see from Cain all year, allowing zero runs across six innings of work. He earned one of his three strikeouts with this elegantly placed heater on the inside corner to Corey Seager that had just enough ride to nip the corner.
Zack Greinke’s Slider – Greinke shined in a big way against the Padres on Monday evening, fanning 11 batters and walking none. His Slider was working just like the old days and got Austin Hedges to chase the pitch out of the zone with its excellent movement.
