Bets of the Day – May 31st

Kyle Stanzel highlights Monday's best bets around baseball.

Hope everyone has had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend as we remember those who gave their lives so we can live watch baseball freely. Take a look at the bets we will be focusing on today as we enjoy a full day of America’s Pastime:

Athletics @ Mariners Total Runs O/U 8

Two intriguing young arms with polar opposite start to their promising careers take the mound on Monday for the Athletics and Mariners. James Kaprielian, who came to Oakland in the Sonny Gray trade, has been nothing short of fantastic the first three starts of his career, allowing just 3 ER with 19 Ks in 17.2 IP. Logan Gilbert debuted with much more fanfare but has struggled in his first 3 starts, although he was much improved in his most recent start against Oakland, allowing 2 ER in 4 IP. Both of these pitchers have exceptional talent and get to face two offenses that haven’t exactly been tearing the cover off the ball lately. In fact, the total runs in each of the Athletics and the Mariners last four games failed to reach seven. So the fact that we are getting eight runs to work with in this game, I am confident in banking on these pitchers and taking the under.

Pick: UNDER 8 (-105 DK, -102 FD)

Astros Total Runs O/U 4.5

After dropping 7 ER on talented but erratic LHP Blake Snell on Sunday, the Astros face another similar LHP on Monday in Boston’s Eduardo Rodriguez. The 28-year old Red Sox has always tantalized fans with his ability, even finishing 6th in the Cy Young voting in 2019. Rodriguez has been roughed up a bit this season however, allowing 56 hits in his 48 IP. While I belive in Rodriguez in the long run, the Astros are as effective as any team against LHP (.340 wOBA, .123 wRC+) outside of the White Sox. Houston even sports the Majors lowest K% (17.2) against LHP, which is one of Rodriguez biggest strengths. The Astros should make things tough on the Red Sox pitcher on Monday and five runs will be no problem.

Pick: OVER 4.5 Runs  (+110 DK)

Carlos Correa/Austin Meadows Total Hits Parlay

After a brief hiatus, we are back on the total hits parlays today! We have already gone over why we think the Astros will be scoring in bunches today and I believe Carlos Correa will be the one leading the charge. Correa has been on fire at the plate lately (286 wRC+ over the last week) and has 5 hits in just 7 ABs against Rodriguez. When looking for a player to pair with Correa, we identified another talented hitter who has been hot lately in Austin Meadows. The lefty has been exceptional over the last week (230 wRC+) and has hit former teammate Jameson Taillon well in their brief history against each other (2 for 3). DraftKings has this parlay at +148, which is more than good enough for me to take these two budding superstars

Pick: OVER 0.5 Hits (+148 DK)

Kyle Stanzel Overall Record: 23-21-0

Net Money (Assuming all wagers are $100): +$1,126.07
