Bets of the Day – April 3

Nathan Hursh takes a look at some bets he likes for today's slate.

Red Sox vs Orioles Run Line

In this matchup, Matt Harvey will be making his Orioles debut against Tanner Houck and the Red Sox. I’ll just be frank here. I do not trust Harvey to be effective in any way. Last season in 11.2 innings pitched with the Royals, the now 32-year-old right-hander allowed 15 earned runs including six home runs. I get it though. Harvey is a name that used to be great and it’s pretty hard to believe that he’s just 32 years old. If you’re the Orioles, why take a flyer on him? Worst case scenario, he eats some innings for you. In today’s matchup though, I’ll take Houck and the Red Sox in a comfortable win.

Pick: Red Sox -1.5 (+104 FD)

Cardinals at Reds Money Line

Looking at this pitching matchup, we have Tyler Mahle of the Reds against Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals. Last season, Mahle struggled against the Cardinals in three starts. Over 12.2 innings pitched, he allowed nine earned runs including three home runs. I get that last season was just one big small sample size and that the numbers are basically meaningless. It’s okay. Today I like the Cardinals. Although Wainwright has mostly struggled against Reds over his career (5.12 ERA over 174 innings), I am feeling some Cardinals devil magic brewing up today.

Pick: Cardinals ML (+106 FD)

Twins at Brewers Money Line

Here is your final lock of the day. As you can see, I love getting plus odds where I think there is value. In this pitching matchup, we have Jose Berrios of the Twins going against Corbin Burnes of the Brewers. In my opinion, this pitching matchup is a wash. These two guys are both nasty in their own right and both lineups will have their hands full in this game. Looking at the lineups though, I’ll take Twins’ offense over the Brewers all day. The key for the Twins today will be to get out to an early lead. Make it so the Brewers’ top-tier bullpen is not a factor in this game. I will say too, the Twins blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning on Opening Day, so I’m expecting them to bounce back today.

Pick: Twins ML (+112 FD)
