First of all, I would like to apologize for the eye-rolling nature of the title’s pun. Anyways, Monday was a day with not too many games, but that didn’t mean we were short on offensive explosions, as there were multiple double-digit run games. Perhaps the best performance of the night goes to the incredible Eric Thames who went 2-3, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI. The dude just. keeps. hitting. It’s insane. His stat lines are absurd, like his .910 SLG, .537 ISO, and his 52.6% HR/FB rate. Look, the guy showed incredible power in Korea, and he obviously figured something out, as evidenced by his 53.1% hard hit rate. The home runs will slow down, obviously, but this guy looks like he’s going to make the people who took a chance on him very happy.

Let’s take a look at some of the other performances from Monday:

Jason Heyward (OF, CHC) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 4 RBI. Look at Jason Heyward, he’s off to a nice start, batting .294 with 16 RBIs so far. It’s not that long ago that Heyward was an excellent player, but man did he have a horrible year last year. Now, I don’t think Heyward is going to go back to what he was all of a sudden, the stats don’t seem to support that, but a 15/15 year batting .270? That’s not out of the question. If he’s out there and you need outfield help, he might be worth a look.

Addison Russell (SS, CHC) – 4-6, 3 R, 1 RBI. Shoutout to Addison Russell for getting six at-bats in this game. Russell is a good player and is looking to put the past couple seasons behind him and show us all just how good he really is. Let’s not forget, this guy was the top prospect in all of baseball at one point, and he’s still only 23.

Ben Zobrist (2B/OF, CHC) – 1-4, 2 R, 3 RBI. Ben Zobrist joined in to the Cubs huge game on Monday with a few RBIs and a pair of runs, overall a nice night for the guy, especially considering how much he’s been struggling to start the year.

Corey Dickerson (OF, TB) – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. This is what Corey Dickerson is good at: hitting home runs, and he took a pretty lame Ubaldo Jimenez pitch at the beginning of the game and launched it out of Camden Yards.

Adam Jones (OF, BAL) – 3-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Adam Jones is starting off the year quite well and Monday’s game was another addition to that. Hey, he’s pretty good, who knew?

Hyun Soo Kim (OF, BAL) – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Kim smacked a solo home run on Monday, which was his first of the year. Kim’s more of a deep league and AL only play, especially in OBP leagues, you’ve just gotta figure out when he’s going to play, cause it’s pretty sporadic.

Jonathan Schoop (2B, BAL) – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. This is what Schoop is good at: hitting home runs, and he did just that.

Scott Schebler (OF, CIN) – 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 4 RBI. Scott Schebler hasn’t had many hits this year (he’s batting .191 so far) but he’s doing what he can with the balls he does hit, as he now has five home runs and 13 RBIs. Still though, that average is painful.

Hernan Perez (3B/OF, MIL) – 2-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI. A nice night for Hernan Perez but overall, there’s nothing to see here as of yet. He had a nice year last year, but it seems less and less likely that we’re going to see that again.

Tim Anderson (SS, CWS) – 3-5, 3 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB. It’s been a pretty disappointing year for Tim Anderson, especially considering his stolen base on Monday was just his second all year, but Monday gave him a nice night. Here’s hoping he can keep it up.

Matt Davidson (DH, CWS) – 3-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI. Davidson had a nice night on Monday and has been hitting pretty well this season, but he plays far too infrequently and is too difficult to figure out on your roster (he’s DH-only in most formats) to be worth rostering.

Ryan Zimmerman (1B, WAS) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. He keeps doing it, Ryan Zimmerman just keeps hitting. Ride the streak while he’s hot man, but it’s going to cool down. That .419 BABIP and 33.3% HR/FB rate aren’t going to keep up all year.

Charlie Blackmon (OF, COL) – 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. Blackmon has been an RBI machine so far this year. Hopefully the average and stolen bases pick up soon though.

Mark Reynolds (1B, COL) – 2-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. Enjoy it while it lasts Mark Reynolds owners, because once Ian Desmond comes back, Reynolds will be back on the bench.

David Peralta (OF, ARI) – 3-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 1 RBI. Man, good for David Peralta, he’s really picked things up. He’s hitting .548 with four doubles, a triple, a home run, three RBIs, and seven runs in the past eight games. That’s nuts.

Chris Owings (SS/OF, ARI) – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 4 RBI, 1 SB. Man, Chris Owings had a full night on Monday, snagging a grand slam and a stolen base. That .400 BABIP will cool down the average soon enough, but Owings can still modestly contribute in home runs and average while stealing 20 bases.

Tony Wolters (C, COL) – 3-4, 2 RBI. He doesn’t have a whole lot of power, but Tony Wolters can hit, as evidenced by his .351 average on the season so far. That being said, he plays far too infrequently to be worth consideration.

Wil Myers (1B, SD) – 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. Hey, that Wil Myers kid is pretty good.

Russell Martin (C, TOR) – 2-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Russell Martin was all the offense the Blue Jays could muster on Monday, hitting a solo home run. It’s been a rough year to say the least for Toronto and especially for Martin.

wait why can’t I see anything on any article?

  2. The Diesel says:

Add me to the list. I also couldn’t see the pitcher article list last night. This is a clown web host, bro!

    • Nick Pollack says:

Thanks for letting us know, we got it back up and normal!

      • The Diesel says:

It sucks that you have to deal with that. Are you hosting your own site? If not, then you really should look into a new host… unless it is your own doing… in which case, it happens!

  3. Andrew says:

If you were to sell high on Thames, what tier of players would you expect in return?

    • Ben Palmer says:

Depends on the general perception of him with whomever you’re dealing with, however I would bet you could reasonably get a top-40 hitter or top-20 pitcher for him right now.

I don’t understand the Addison Russell blurb. “Putting the past couple seasons behind him?” As you said he is only 23. He was brought up early at the age of 21. I think I would word it as building off those first two seasons. I don’t think he looks at those seasons in a negative way at all.

    • Ben Palmer says:

I would say he may not, but a lot of fantasy baseball players did.

In the preseason, I heard plenty of people saying that Russell was just a middle-of-the-road shortstop, almost talking about him like he was a bust when he came up so early.
