Batter’s Box: Confort-oh yea

I know, Michael Conforto has been really bad lately. In fact, he’s been really bad this year with a handful of hot streaks here and there, and in the past month, he’s been especially bad, slashing .234/.301/.495. However, with yesterday’s 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 4 RBI performance, he’s now got two-straight games with a home run and a really good .300 ISO over the past two weeks. The average hasn’t been great, but the power has been there, and fortunately for Conforto and his owners, the New York Mets have a good week ahead of them. The Mets will get to see the Miami Marlins, who have a bad rotation, and the Boston Red Sox, missing both Chris Sale and David Price’s turn in the rotation. So if you own Conforto, this might be the start of something decent and worth starting him for.

Let’s take a look at some of the other hitting performances from yesterday’s games:

Justin Smoak (1B, Toronto Blue Jays) – 2-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI. Smoak is another guy who’s had a bad month, slashing .183/.302/.415, but similar to Conforto, the power has really been there lately. The average is picking up, as he’s hitting .243 over the past two weeks, but he’s also sporting a ridiculous .406 ISO over that same timespan.

Jonathan Schoop (2B, Milwaukee Brewers) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 5 RBI. After seriously struggling once the Milwaukee Brewers acquired him from the Baltimore Orioles, Schoop has finally been picking it up, slashing .273/.324/.576 over the past two weeks. He was dropped in a fair number of leagues because of that cold streak and is available in 40% of leagues, so go snag him if you need a second baseman or middle infielder.

Justin Turner (3B, Los Angeles Dodgers) – 4-5, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. Justin Turner has been on a tear the past month. Like seriously. I’m talking a slashline of .392/.475/.745 over the course of a month. That’s just insane.

Charlie Blackmon (OF, Colorado Rockies) – 3-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 2 RBI. Blackmon’s picking things up after an August that saw him slash .226/.293/.358, as he’s slashing .333/.393/.588 over the past two weeks. He’s picked the perfect time to heat up.

Luis Urias (SS/2B, San Diego Padres) – 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. It was exciting to hear that the Padres would be calling up Urias, one of their top prospects, but his time in the majors has been anything but exciting. So far, he’s slashing .205/.265/.364. There’s on value here right now, but he’s still a top prospect so obviously you’re hanging onto him in your dynasty leagues.

Ronald Acuna Jr. (OF, Atlanta Braves) – 2-3, 1 HR, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB. Acuna continued his Rookie of the Year case yesterday, bringing him to a ridiculous .342/.445/.746 slashline over the past month. I’m really curious how inflated his draft value will be next year, and I really wonder if he’ll be worth it. Whatever happens, he’s been amazing to watch this year.
