Batter’s Box: Hold the Lindor!

While many of the highlights from Wednesday’s action are going to be of great pitching performances (and there were plenty), there were some sweet hitting performances as well. Most notably, we’ve got Francisco Lindor who continued to show the world why he’s one of the most exciting talents in all of baseball. Dude had a line of 3-4, 2 HR, 3 R, 5 RBI, 1 SB, including one of those home runs being a grand slam. The guy is just a stud, there’s no other way to describe it, and the craziest thing is, he’s still only 23, so while last year was a great year for him, this year could be even better if you can believe that.

Let’s take a look at some of the other highlights from Wednesday:

Brian Dozier – 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 SB. If there are two things Brian Dozier is good at, it’s home runs and steals. He did the latter twice with no home runs, but expect around a 20/20 season out of this guy.

Miguel Sano – 1-3, 2 R, 3 RBI. Sano had a nice night that was topped off by a triple. Yes. Miguel Sano hit a triple, let that sink in.

Eduardo Escobar – 2-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI. Eduardo Escobar, a player virtually no one owns, stuffed up the stat sheet. But don’t pick him up, he’s probably not even the starter and he’s not all that good. But hey, good for Eduardo.

Adam Jones – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Jones’s value cam entirely from a two-run home run he hit, but he plays in the AL East (and in Camden Yards), nights like this are going to happen, and enjoy them while they last.

Chris Davis – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Chris Davis hits a solo home run and strikes out twice. Just Crush being Crush.

J.T. Realmuto – 2-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. One of the better catchers out there (he’ll get you steals!), Realmuto had a solid night. Realmuto will rarely have crazy nights, but he’s a pretty solid rock of a catcher.

Bryce Harper 2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI. It’s Bryce Harper, what else is there to say? I will say, shoutout to him for attempting a steal, even if he got caught, it’s good to see him trying.

Ryan Zimmerman – 1-3, 1 HR, 2 R, 1 RBI: Another guy who’s entire value was thanks to a solo home run. Zimmerman is barely ownable in 12-team league or deeper. He’s a mediocre hitter now who hits close to twenty home runs, you can get that just about anywhere on the waiver wire.

Joey Votto – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Joey Votto can hit home runs, that’s never been in question and he did it again. Enjoy the power, and if you’re in an OBP league, enjoy the walks.

Jay Bruce – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. A home run and a double, that’s what Jay Bruce ended up with and that’s just about what you’d expect. Bruce has a ton of power, he just needs to reign in the strikeouts.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 3-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. After a 3-4 night, having jut one run and one RBI (from a home run) is almost disappointing. Still though, a good night for Ellsbury, but don’t expect too much power from him, he’s barely got the ability to hit 10 home runs anymore.

Corey Dickerson – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Corey Dickerson swings hard, and subsequently hits the ball hard, but he also strikes out hard. He did both on Wednesday, hitting a home run, but also striking out. That’s what you get with Dickerson.

Derek Norris – 1-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 SB. I’m literally only including this because I find it pretty entertaining that Derek “Speed Demon” Norris stole a base today. Maybe the beard is the source of all his power?

Sandy Leon – 3-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. The real story of the Boston/Pittsburgh game was the amazing pitching duel between Chris Sale and Jameson Taillon, but the game ended in spectacular fashion once Leon crushed the walkoff home run for the Red Sox in the bottom of the 12^th inning. But in all honesty, Leon’s just not that great, I don’t even expect him to play a full season. But hey, nice game.

Nomar Mazara – 2-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. It was a nice little night for Mazara as he crushed a two-run home run and was able to snag another RBI with a hit in the gap. He’s a talented player who can hit the ball hard. If he’s able to stop chasing balls and show a little more patience, he could be a really good player this season.

Jonathan Villar – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Villar almost had a steal to go along with his home run, but got caught stealing. Still though, a great game from Villar regardless. While he’s mostly known for his speed, dude has some serious pop too.

Eric Thames – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. The wonder from the KBO, back from the dead! Nice to see Thames doing some work. Here’s hoping he can bring those KBO numbers to the MLB (a man can dream).

Jean Segura – 2-6, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Kind of a bummer that in six at-bats, Segura only got two hits, but luckily one of them was a home run, giving him a nice night.

George Springer – 2-7, 1 HR, 1 R, 5 RBI. Springer didn’t hit just any home run, he hit the home run, the home run that gave the Houston Astros the win in the bottom of the 13th inning. Plus, a five-RBI game doesn’t hurt.

Yasiel Puig – 2-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. IS IT TIME TO BELIEVE? Not quite yet, but there’s never been any denying Puig’s talent. Let’s just hope he gets the playing time (and keeps his head screwed on straight).

Brandon Belt – 2-5, 1 HR, 2 R, 1 RBI. Brandon Belt with a nice game, getting a solo shot in the fifth inning. Belt’s a solid hitter, and this game just shows that even more.

A.J. Pollock – 3-5, 1 R, 1 RBI. Not that amazing of a night for Pollock as he only got one run and one RBI, but a 3 for 5 night is still nice for your batting average.

Chris Owings – 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB. Owings is a guy who can nab you some steals without killing your batting average, and a line like this is exactly what you’d want out of him. He’s a decent guy in deep leagues.
