Every weekend here at Pitcher List, I review all expected starting pitcher matchups for the week ahead. There are three labels: StartMaybe, and Sit. Outings marked with a Maybe are circumstantial and dependent on your needs in a 12-teamer, while the other two are self-explanatory. Feel free to question my designations in the comments and we’ll dive into it together.

Here’s the massive table containing every Week 14 start from 7/3 – 7/9:

Why the two sits for Cahill? Coming off the injury sufficient enough to deny him a Maybe?

    • Nick Pollack says:

I was tempted to give him that maybe for the second start against the Phils (obviously DLH for the first), but since it’s been almost two months I think he might need more than one start to rev the engine.

It was one of the tougher “sit” calls and wouldn’t have a problem labeling it as a “maybe”.

  2. Andrew says:

Would you rather start Matz during a difficult two start week or Eickhoff against SD right before the All Star Break?

    • Nick Pollack says:

I’d go Matz as he’s assured to have more strikeouts and higher chance of at least one Win. Even has a chance to have the better ERA/WHIP.

It doesn’t help that Eickhoff still isn’t a sure thing to do well against the padres.

  3. DJ says:

Lackey only getting 1 start this week. Even as much as he has sucked have to pick him over folty this week right?

  4. Chris from Detroit says:

I have Freeland and Hoffman on my team. Having a rough go deciding which to choose! 14 team weekly league. Who would you choose?

  5. SwayzeExpress says:

Yahoo has Rich Hill going vs ARI 7-6 and not vs KC on the 8th. Is he still a start in that situation?

    • Nick Pollack says:

Because the Dodgers of all teams are going a brief four-man rotation…unreal.

I think you still roll with him as his Curveball was as good as we’ve ever seen it last time out.

So I have “first world problems” given that I’m pretty loaded for this week. Behind Kershaw, Sale, and Scherzer, I have three two-start guys in Nelson, Nola, and Taillon. I can start five total. I know all those guys are “Starts” for each of their starts this week, but of those latter three, is there one that you’re feeling less confident about than the other two? It’s a points league.
