Before you dive into this list, it’s important to understand that I hate giant overall lists. What are you talking about Nick? They are a critical component to every draft! No, they aren’t. Ranking each position and having a proper draft plan is much more important. So important that I will be releasing my 2017 Draft Outing to the public on Friday (you can already read it if you have supported us on Patreon!), which helps much better than following a “one-size-fits-all” overall list, but I understand that people an overall ranking and here it is.
The biggest gripe I have with these lists is that it can easily sway owners into picking a person ranking a few spots higher despite going against the proper draft mold. For example, if you need a closer, you should be going Cody Allen even if Wilson Contreras fell a round or two. If you’re going to use this, make sure it’s just for reference purposes and not your sole buddy during the draft.
These are slightly different than the ones we have posted on the site thus far. There are two reason why:
- Injuries have changed the landscape since our initial rankings
- These rankings are my personal overall list, which differ slightly from Andrew Todd-Smith and Ben Palmer’s rankings.

Can you explain, or point me to where you’ve already explained, why you rank Carlos Santana higher than any other expert in the fantasy community? I would never consider him at that spot and I play in an OBP league in which he has even more value. Thanks.
I would consider him there if I were you, especially in an OBP league.
He’s not getting much love as people see his 34 outburst as an anomaly after 19 just the year before. However, he greatly improved his swing and it looks like 2015, not 2016, was the outlier.
Hard contact went up, HR/FB normalized, more flyballs, less soft contact, it’s all there.
Am I missing Adam wainwright in the rankings or is he really not a top 105 sp?
While Wainwright will end up inside whatever “Top 100 SP” metric at the end of the season, for fantasy purposes it’s better to chase upside at that point in the draft over grabbing Wainwright and getting mediocre numbers through the full year.
Dear Nick, big fan of your rankings.
I play in a very competitive league were we count as batting cathegories the following: Doubles, Triples, BB, hits (among others that are more standard). Could you please name a few players that you think migh be better suited for these stats, than the general consensus rankings? Just trying to outsmart the rest!

Those are actually a solid collection of stats as it elevates OBP power bats (Doubles/BBs) and slap speedsters (Hits/Triples).
Two guys that immediately pop out are Christian Yelich and Joey Votto, who will take advantage of nearly all categories. Players with good walk tendencies that already hit for a good average should get the largest boosts.
