There weren’t many starters going today, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have anything to talk about as Zack Godley filled that need easily with a horrific start of 3.1 IP, 7 ER, 5 Hits, 2 BBs, 3 Ks against the Giants. After looking like he was on the upswing, Zack throws us this one and it makes me want to throw him down the List plenty further. Do I believe that he’ll get his act together at some point? Yes. Do I think that you should pass over Top 50 options as you wait for that to happen? Depends on the arm, but probably not. Great example, I’d rather own Eduardo Rodriguez or Walker Buehler right now. I’m not happy to say that, but that’s just the current state of affairs.
Let’s see how every other SP did Monday:
Luis Severino – 8.0 IP, 1 ER, 4 Hits, 0 BBs, 10 Ks. Aces gonna ace. Seriously, this is dope, even if one came from a horrendous Angel Hernandez call. Whatever, a Gallows Pole with 17 whiffs and 35% CSW. That’s what’s up.
Mike Fiers – 5.2 IP, 2 ER, 6 Hits, 2 BBs, 6 Ks. Man, I now have this great Fiers line and here he goes and performs well against the Yankees. Ugh, Fiers, stop doing this. You know you’re not good, just let me have this.
Derek Holland – 4.0 IP, 2 ER, 4 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks. Six Ks! 2 ER! Five Baserunners!…in just four frames. Seriously?
Clayton Richard – 7.0 IP, 3 ER, 6 Hits, 2 BBs, 5 Ks. It’s the wrong Clayton! Well get used to him as Kershaw it out for ages. It’s 3 ER with five strikeouts and you feel kinda dirty if you own it, let’s be real. No, I don’t think Richard is worth the gamble, even in good matchups.
Julio Teheran – 4.0 IP, 3 ER, 5 Hits, 3 BBs, 2 Ks. Four Frames? A 2.00 WHIP? 6.33 ERA? Just two strikeouts? In San Diego? I should be expecting the comments to stop about not giving Teheran enough love now, right?
Danny Duffy – 5.0 IP, 4 ER, 7 Hits, 2 BBs, 1 Ks. Can’t say I expected much of anything here from Duffy, but one strikeout? HAISTFMFWT?
Domingo German – 6.2 IP, 4 ER, 7 Hits, 2 BBs, 3 Ks. Blegh. He never looked good in this one and if you can’t put faith in a start against the Tigers, can you against any team? Let him loose.
Nick Tropeano – 4.1 IP, 5 ER, 9 Hits, 1 BBs, 6 Ks. This was the only reasonable stream choice and even with an impressive 13 whiffs and six strikeouts, Tropeano let us down with 5 ER. Womp womp. Streaming Record: 33-23.
Drew VerHagen – 3.2 IP, 7 ER, 7 Hits, 2 BBs, 2 Ks. Drew’s middle name must be Michael since he brings as much pain to owners as the DMV.
Today’s Streamer
None – Seriously, there are zero options today as guys are all owned or have terrible matchups. The closest is Nathan Eovaldi but he gets the Nationals and that’s a clear stay-away.
Tomorrow’s Streamer
Clay Buchholz vs. San Francisco Giants – I don’t love this one – if you did that would be a little weird – but there aren’t many options here.
Day After Tomorrow’s Streamer
Frankie Montas vs. Kansas City Royals – Not a big fan of this, but I can imagine Montas getting through this one without much damage.
Game of the Day
Madison Bumgarner vs. Patrick Corbin – Hey, Madbum is back! Hey, maybe Corbin’s velocity is too!
Would you consider Zack Littell as a good streaming option for today?
I was just about to comment this ^ good catch! He has a great matchup against the White Sox (though they do get Davidson back today).
I picked him up for my competitive 16 team dynasty league for AT LEAST a spot start.
Not really. He’s not an overpowering arm and lacks a plus pitch, earning his great strikeout rates by setting up hitters in the minors. Sure, there’s a chance that works in the majors, but it’s a much tougher of a bet than someone else with a more dominant approach.
16-team dynasty? Yeah, go ahead.
Per Baseball America: “He projects as a solid mid-rotation piece with the potential for a little more.”
Worth a shot vs the White Sox. Especially in a double header where they might be resting starters…

Teheran had an issue with his finger and was topping out at like 89 throughout the game
Two Ks through 4 IP? Its not a finger problem. Its a Teheran problem. This is par for him. He belongs on the bench next to Sal Romano, Luis Castillo, Chris Tillman and other such dignitaries. Shame on anyone who has any of the aforementioned rostered.
Castillo and his top five swinging strike rate thrown in with the likes of Romano and Tillman? It was only a matter of time before PitcherList started getting trolls.
Yikes. I think Castillo deserves better than to be compared to Romano and Tillman.
The Castillo/ Romano numbers are closer than you’d think.
Numbers don’t lie but the two are completely different arms. And it’s not like we’ve seen Romano dominate for the good part of a season like Castillo did last year.
Numbers don’t lie… but using them responsibly and intelligently is not a given. Numbers don’t lie… but people do! There are enough splits, numbers and metrics to tell whatever story your want.
That’s not true or fair. He had a real issue with his finger and his velocity was down. I hope that he isn’t hurt long term.
What do you consider a win or loss for your streamer pick?
I believe he makes a subjective decision on whether the pitcher was more win or more loss.
Is Gohara a safe drop at this point? I was going to drop after yesterday’s outing then realized Teheran’s injury might change things.
I would continue to hold. There are a couple arms in the rotation that he could replace at any given moment. I.e. : McCarthy (injury history) or Sanchez (ineffectiveness history) or just the chance anyone else gets injured…happens all the time for pitchers..
Entirely depends on format… probably not?
Gohara just spent the last two weeks in Brazil on bereavement leave away from any organized baseball caring for an ailing relative. Pump the brakes. They basically just decided to throw him out there for a rehab start in the middle of a game against the Padres.
I think Godley should be further down, below Marco Gonzales who’s been teriffic. His BB rate on the road was over 6 before last night! Now I’m only considering him as a streaming option at home against weaker lineups.
Any worries about Thor getting shut down due to an innings limit this year? Or has he had his break already now and should be good to go health permitting. Need another top level SP, and considering a deal for him with Arenado in (not straight up and salaries play a part).
Would you drop Godley for Fulmer?
I would, yes. Fulmer has a higher ceiling. Both are struggling right now, but Fulmer probably has the better chance to pull out of it.
Rodon still sitting there as the only SP worth picking up, drop Godley for him?
At what level do you consider a pitcher a streamer vs keep in your weekly lineup, ie. Heaney, Cahill, Skaggs and ERod. Thanks
