David Price
Boston Red Sox

49.6% Thrown  92.8 MPH

Price elected to feature a Two-Seamer over a Four-Seamer last year, and it simply didn't work out. Jumping from a 5.6% HR/FB rate to 16.7% HR/FB rate brought his pVal down from an excellent 10.5 to a poor -4.1 in 2016.

8.8% Thrown  79.0 MPH

Price's Knuckle-Curve is used more as a "Show-Me" pitch, which isn't necessarily a "Get-Me-Over" but more of a pitch that he uses to confuse batters and confuse them when sitting on his Fastball or Changeup. Not the most effective of offerings as it got hit harder last year than in previous years - its ISO jumped from .107 to .231 - and isn't a pitch that defines Price's repertoire.

22.5% Thrown  84.4 MPH

This Changeup is easily Price's best pitch, never failing to earn a positive pVal and hitting a career high 15.5 in 2016. The pitch exhibits above average horizontal movement (nearly two inches extra) while he can throw it in the zone constantly and generate a ton of whiffs - a 22.8% whiff rate last year with a near 50% O-Swing while also hitting the zone 47.9% of the time.

19.2% Thrown  88.1 MPH

Like many lefties, Price loves to jam his Cutter inside to right-handers, which helped him render a 23.7% IFFB rate for the pitch last year. He also freezes bats with the pitch as it comes back over the outside corner at the last minute to steal a strikeout for an unsuspecting right-handed hitter.
