Talk about an explosive game that came out of nowhere, Tyler Collins lit it up on Wednesday night going 3-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI. Such are the joys of hitting against Ubaldo Jimenez when he’s having an off day (and he has more off days than on days). As fun as this game was for Collins, there’s really nothing here. Collins was hitting .216 with two home runs coming into this game, and there’s really no reason to believe he’ll turn it around. Still though, what a game for like, the five people who owned and started him.
Let’s take a look at some of the other performances from Wednesday:
Corey Dickerson (OF, TB) – 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. Corey Dickerson doing what he does best, hitting home runs. The average has been great, but beware of his .386 BABIP.
Logan Morrison (1B, TB) – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. I don’t expect the average to change much, but Morrison’s power is fairly legit.
Jesus Sucre (C, TB) – 2-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. Sucre is good when he plays, he just rarely plays unfortunately.
Bradley Zimmer (OF, CLE) – 2-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. If you jumped on this prospect when he came up, you were rewarded in this game. Zimmer has a very interesting power and speed combo that makes him worth owning in leagues he isn’t already owned in.
Michael Conforto (OF, NYM) – 1-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. We all knew Conforto being an excellent hitter was possible, and it’s so nice that the Mets finally seem to know that too.
Jake Lamb (3B, ARI) – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Lamb has been killing it lately, batting .458 in his last six games. His BABIP is high, so expect some regression there, but the power is legit, and he’s walking more than ever.
Chris Herrmann (C, ARI) – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Herrmann has been awful this year, but blasted a walkoff home run last night. Still, nothing to see here.
Eduardo Nunez (SS/3B/OF, SF) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Nunez was drafted for his speed, but he’s got a little power too, he just hadn’t shown it until Wednesday night. Hopefully he can get another 15 or so home runs the rest of the way.
Andrew McCutchen (OF, PIT) – 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 SB. Andrew McCutchen showing the fantasy community that he’s still got some speed left. Don’t give up on him just yet.
Josh Bell (1B, PIT) – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. After a slow start to the year, Josh Bell has been quietly getting a lot better, batting .273 with four home runs over the last 15 days.
Jose Bautista (OF, TOR) – 3-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 1 RBI. Jose Bautista has been bad, over the past week or so he’s been turning around, but it’s really looking like age is catching up with him.
Justin Smoak (1B, TOR) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. He keeps doing it, and the reduced strikeout rate makes me think this is not entirely luck (though some of it is). Enjoy it while it lasts, I’m cautiously optimistic.
Kurt Suzuki (C, ATL) – 2-3, 1 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI. A nice game for Suzuki but he’s on the wrong end of a timeshare at catcher and hasn’t been that productive even when he’s in.
Michael Saunders (OF, PHI) – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Nice game for Saunders, but he’s really only a deep league or NL-only play right now.
Jared Hoying (OF, TEX) – 4-4, 1 HR, 3 R, 2 RBI. Hoying was recently called up by the Rangers after spending a lot of time at Triple-A, and he had quite a game on Wednesday. He could be worth keeping an eye on.
Zack Cozart (SS, CIN) – 3-4, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. Cozart’s still got it going on. The hits will slow down as the BABIP slows down, but enjoy it while it lasts.
Aaron Hicks (OF, NYY) – 2-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. Hicks is another ride the streak guy. The power is ridiculous considering his measly 25.4% hard hit rate, but the fact that his walk rate is nearly 20% is impressive to say the least.
Salvador Perez (C, KC) – 1-3, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Perez has kind of been exactly what you expected this year. A good average, some pop, and a decent number of RBIs. Plus, he plays a ton.
Whit Merrifield (OF, KC) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Good for Whit Merrifield, but he’s been pretty bad this year.
Jackie Bradley Jr. (OF, BOS) – 2-5, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Hey now JBJ, two home runs in two games? Could this be the beginning of a good JBJ streak? We can hope.
Dexter Fowler (OF, STL) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 1 RBI. Owning Dexter Fowler has been rough, but it’ll get better. He’s not a .270 hitter like he was last year, more like a .255 hitter, but he’ll hit another 10 or so home runs with a similar number of steals the rest of the way.
Jose Abreu (1B, CWS) – 2-5, 1 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI. Fun fact: all seven of Abreu’s home runs this year have come on the road.
Mike Trout (OF, LAA) – 1-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 3 RBI. Trout took a night off of hitting home runs on Tuesday and got right back to it on Wednesday. Yea, he’s pretty good.
Any chance Villar loses some time with Sogard playing well?
I would doubt it. If the Brewers thought they were getting anything other than what they’ve got so far from Villar, then they haven’t been paying attention. He’s stealing bases, he’s hitting home runs, and he’s hitting a poor average. That’s who Villar is, that’s what he does. Maybe Villar loses a start or two here and there while Sogard is hot, but I would doubt it’s significant.
