A.J. Griffin’s Curveball – The Blue Jays are never an easy matchup, but Griffin carved them up for nine strikeouts across just six innings of work on Monday evening. His slow Curveball was a thing of beauty across the night, especially when it staggered Troy Tulowitzki during this full count. (Thanks to Redditor SoundGuy4Life for the tip!)
Jon Gray’s Slider – It can be tough for Gray to have success as he pitches for the Rockies, but he took advantage of a start inside Petco Field last night. He tallied eleven punchouts during the outing including this sweet K forcing Jemile Weeks to awkwardly flail at this biting Slider. (Thanks to Redditor Hugo_Hackenbush for the tip!)
Jose Berrios‘ Curveball – Berrios’ pitches were moving all over the place last night, perfectly exemplified by this sharp Curveball to perennial batting-champ contender Jose Altuve. This pitch was actually called a ball, leading to catcher John Ryan Murphy to get tossed arguing with the umpire. Regardless of the hook’s outcome, its filthiness should not be ignored. Bartolo Colon’s Fastball – There are a few things The Big Apple is known for – his athleticism, his longevity, and his wicked Two-Seam Fastball. He makes a living freezing left-handers with front-door Fastball like this beauty to Nick Markakis.
James Shields‘ Curveball – Griffin wasn’t the only one with a remarkable slow Curveball yesterday as Shields snuck this huge bender under the bat of Carlos Gonazlez for the first out in the sixth.
Jeurys Familia’s Splitter – Familia was called in during a non-save situation and gave up a run, but he still flexed his crazy good Splitter as he struck out A.J. Pierzynski to get the first out. (Thanks to Redditor see_mohn for the tip!)
